I am a senior at Northwest Missouri State University, graduating this May with a degree in Interactive Digital Media with an emphasis in New Media. I am from Wyaconda, Mo, in the Northeast corner of Missouri. I have always been interested in advertising and graphic design, especially the work that goes into making advertisements and logos.
Last Fall semester I interned with the B.D. Owens Library on the Northwest campus, where I created posters and flyers to advertise the services that the library offered. I gained a lot of experience working with others.
Also last fall I was in the course Advanced Advertising Strategies, instructed by Jacquie Lamer. We rebranded and created advertising campaigns for Mozingo Lake and Mozingo Golf Course; I was able to work with many of my talented peers and was given the task of creating the Plans Book for the class with another student. You can see all the work my classmates and I did here.
My summers the past six years have been working at a small town grocery store near my hometown, Mac’s Super Saver. I was given the position of manager five years ago, with which I have learned many leadership qualities.
At Northwest Missouri State University I have been able to be a part of Business Women of Missouri and Sigma Society.
Business Women of Missouri is a women’s organization that helps the female community prepare for their professional careers by teaching resume and cover letter building. Each spring we also have a class in self-defense, which isn’t only a class but also a bonding experience for the members. I have held the public relations chair for this organization two years.
Sigma Society is a women’s service organization. We volunteer our time to the local community and university. Each year we donate the money that we raise to a local charity or organization. Each spring semester we hold a bridal show; all the proceeds from this event go to the Children and Family Center of Northwest Missouri. This spring semester I became the public relations chair for this organization and was in charge of creating a flyer for our Sand Volleyball Tournament to benefit the Special Olympics, as well and redoing and updating our website.
